Random Random-ness

It’s finally happened- I have no idea what to write! That’s not too bad is it? Since last August I’ve been turning out weekly blog posts. And it’s not completely true to say I don’t know what to write about, cause I actually have quiet a few things I can’t wait to tall ya guys about but I can’t… Not yet anyway.
Well anyway I went to lake front yesterday, because I was bored and needed to get out of the house. The original plan was to go to the art museum, however I got caught up n God’s art work instead.

Standing by the lake I wished I knew some beautiful sonnet to quote off by heart. The hush of the shining, white snow against the excited energy of the churning waters and the pastel pallet of the sky; deserved some clever and passionate speech of the glories of nature. Something beyond my capabilities anyway.

Being Single

I’ve been planning on writing this post for awhile and it seems very apropos to write it now. (Happy Valentines Day!)
Let me first say that I have finally (finally as in the last couple of months) come to the realization that I like where I am right now. Personally I don’t think I’m ready to date. I’m enjoying life as a very single 22 year old, who’s spreading her wings for the first time.
Does this mean if Mr. Right (or just a normal guy) asked me out I’d say no? No, I don’t think so (I mean it depends on the guy) But the pressure, the hunt for a dude if you will, isn’t there anymore. And it’s such a relief!
There are times I get lonely and I would like a friend who I can be my complete self with. (Not that I don’t have family and friends I love being around) I think there’s a desire in most all of us to want a companion to share life with. But I’m learning to love who I am right now and to wait where God has me.
There are times when you can’t understand why you cannot do what you want to do. When God brings a time of waiting, and appears to be unresponsive, don’t fill it with busyness, just wait.
-Oswald Chambers
My Mom always told me, but it wasn’t until recently it sunk in,  “That life won’t always be this way.” In the end I want what God has in store for me, because whatever (or whoever) is so much better than what my imagination can come up with.
Lots of loves,
Tally

Life Update

It’s been awhile since you guys have heard from Nanny’s official mascot, George! So here’s a brief life update…

Is he bigger?
Can you guys tell a difference? Friends would ask if George had gotten any bigger and I would quickly and unequivocally say “No”. But it got me thinking… What if George was getting bigger and I just couldn’t tell. Again what do you guys think?

He loves me! He loves me!

No longer does the cranky fish hide at the back of the tank in fear of me. He’s actually quiet friendly for an introvert (fish after my own heart) He’ll swim around and talk to me when I’m in the kitchen making popcorn or doing dishes. Course it’s most likely because he knows his food is right there just waiting for him. It’s obvious his one true love is little girl, who comes to visit sometimes.
Would George by any other name sound as sweet?
Well apparently yes. Like all my pets (all two of them and I blame you for this Dad) George has quiet a few nicknames. George, Georgie Porgy, George Washington, Grumpy Fish (a variant of Cranky Fish) Crankster and Curious (or Chewy) George as his one true love calls him.
Prima Donna
George loves being clean! I’ve never had a fish before so I don’t know if all fish get so excited about their tanks being cleaned, but George definitely does. He dances around his tank. Yes, dances. There’s no other way to describe it. He’s one happy fish.
So all and all George the Porge is thriving. He’s survived six or seven “trips” where I’ve disappeared for a few days. And he’s survived my unconditional and sometimes clueless love.

P.S.
Does anyone know why I named him George? (Hint: Audrey Hepburn)

Must See List 2019

Another year, another list of movies to see. Below is my current Must See list of 2019!

  1. Lego Movie 2
Release Date: 2/8/19
Everything is awesome!
When the first movie came out I was very hesitant to see it as it looked super cheesy, but it was… well awesome and cheesy! The Lego movies that have come out sense then haven’t quiet measured up to the original, but this second installment looks as silly and ridiculous as the first. And it comes out tomorrow! (Ya know if ya need something to do)
2. How to Train Your Dragon: Hidden World
Release Date: 2/22/19
It’s all over… And I am extremely sad. I still remember seeing the first movie in theaters with my sisters and then watching every single TV show and series (plus the second movie) My favorite character would have to be Toothless followed in quick succession by the Twins (Ruff and Tuff) and of course chicken. (I love chickens!) This movie is probably going to break my heart, but I also can’t wait.
3. Captain Marvel
Release Date: 3/8/19
I was, at first, wary of this new hero as most likely she’s here to replace Chris Evan’s Captain America. But once I saw the trailer I was ready to dive in face first! One it’s got Coulson (a young and alive Coulson), plus Nick Fury with an eye and the Skrulls are the bad guys!!! If you guys know anything about Marvel you know how awesome the Skrulls are. Like if the planet has to fall to anyway (sorry Thanos) the Skrulls would be the race to do it.
4. Avengers Endgame
Release Date: 4/26/19
Speaking of Marvel, I foolishly thought I was ready for Avengers InFinity War… Yeah everyone I thought was gonna die didn’t and those I thought were gonna live died… I’m so not ready for this… But bring it on!
5. Godzilla: King of Monsters
Release Date: 4/31/19
So growing up my younger sister went through a stage where Godzilla was the only thing to watch… I have seen every Japanese, English dubbed Godzilla movie ever. Naturally this corruption has followed me into my adult years. I loved the last Godzilla movie and am excited to see the next installment.
6. Spider-Man Far From Home
Release Date:7/5/19
Spider-Man is my favorite super hero hands down and frankly the earlier attempts at putting his character in movies weren’t the greatest. Don’t get me wrong there were some aspects I loved! But in the end they made Peter grow up too fast and lie about everything and all he seemed to think about was his love interest… And his villains weren’t really that scary (except for the Green Goblin- His laugh/scream… terrified me) I love, love, love the current direction they’re going with the character and if the trailer is any indication this movie is going to be awesome!!
7. Downton Abbey the Movie
Release Date: 9/20/19
For some reason I am always way behind in the curb when it comes to popular things. (Not that I really care but is kinda funny) For instance I only just watched Downton Abbey last year. (Yeah just last year) But I watched all six seasons in like a month, it was that good!
They left everyone in a good place when the series ended: Anna and Bates had a son, Mary and Henry were expecting their first, Tom and Sybbie were home, Carson and Mrs. Hughes were married and happy, Daisy finally has her head screwed on right, Mrs. Patmore was flirting with Mr. Mason (or the other way round, or both), Thomas is head butler, Robert and Cora are safe and content (with their cute puppers) Molesley and Baxter were flirting, Granny was her amazing saucy self, Lord and Lady Morton were happy (and alive) and dear Edith was finally set! Please don’t destroy this for me!!
There you have it, my current Must See list. What’s on your list? What can’t you wait to see? Leave it below!
Lots of loves,
Tally

What Does Mary Poppins Do on Her Day Off?

Believe it or not I get asked this question a lot. And I get it. Being a live-in nanny it’s easy to get bugged down and feel like you’re literally trapped in the house. So it is important to take full advantage of your time off.

  1. Sleep in
Okay so naturally I’m a morning person and the latest I can sleep in is 8 or 8:30, but let me tell ya I look forward to those two or three extra hours of sleep on my days off. Especially these wintry mornings… Ah so nice to stay under my warm blankets and have absolutely no where to be or go.

2. Go on Adventures

So this is more a summer thing for me (my love to roam is somewhat hampered by my above love to hibernate) But I love, love to explore! As an introvert I’m completely okay to go places by myself. That being said going on adventures with a good friend is always a blast. But even if no one is available to explore don’t let that stop you! (I think we’ve talked about this before)

3. Writing and Coffee Shops

If I’m feeling sociable I’ll get my breakfast and coffee out amongst the populace. Then spend an hour or two writing and/or reading.

4. Shopping

I love to shop… It’s so easy… Too easy…

5. Cruising
I’ll pop in my fav CD (yes I still listen to CD’s and probably always will) or tune the radio to my favorite station, hop in my car and let the road take me wherever. You never know where you’ll end up.

6. Chill and Netflix
Don’t feel like you have to get out. It’s okay to do nothing and watch the next, next episode.
So there you have it. What is your go to day off strategy?
Lots of loves,
Tally

Reflections and a Holy God

Taking a more personal turn, I was just laying here sitting how completely clueless I can be. How clueless we can all be.

Let me explain. It’s been extremely cold here the past week (which most of you know)  and we have gotten a crap ton of a snow. But it’s been too cold to actually enjoy and play in the snow. And because of the cold I’m probably gonna have to replace my car’s battery and the pipes in my kitchen froze (but thankfully they’ve thawed and nothing burst) and I’ve had a headache every night this week because of the weather- Basically I have been counting every little inconvenience, every little thing as a personal attack. And I was wondering why I felt so miserable.
Well after the pipes unfroze I realized how ungrateful my attitude has been. How selfish I’ve been… And God didn’t waver or move. He was and is faithful. God hasn’t left us simply because life has become inconvenient. Maybe He’s trying to get our attention. For me it was getting my attention off of me and back on Him. He never said life would be perfect as Christian (in fact He said the opposite. We should expect worse) But He did say He’d never leave us nor forsake us.
Instead of listing things that are troublesome list God’s attributes and what He has done. God is faithful; He’s provided me the money to get a new battery. God is gracious and merciful; He saved me, a wretched sinner, from my own sin by sending His Son to die. His goodness is overflowing; my work commute consists of a flight of stairs and I work with some amazing women. God is all powerful; not only does He hold my very atoms together but those of the entire universe as well.
And the list could go on and on and on and on and on. When You look at your life through God all you see is Him.
“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Philippians 4:8
“Have you been asking God what He is going to do? He will never tell you. God does not tell you what He is going to do- He reveals to you who He is… Believe God is always the God you know Him to be when you are nearest to Him. Then think how unnecessary and disrespectful worry is!” Oswald Chambers
